I am actually a bit reticent to post this up, but I think I have established a pretty solid reputation as someone who is not racist, and generally just doesn’t like anyone.
So, I stood up for Jerry Sandusky, and I can do it for this Mexican in Florida.
Everyone needs to take a breath about this kid who got killed.
Yes, it is sad, no-it is awful-but, no one knows exactly what happened yet, except for that a man shot a boy, and hasn’t been arrested yet.
By “no one knows”, I mean no one, not the police, not the prosecutors, not you or me, not Republican candidates, not Obama, and not Jesse fucking Jackson.
I am treading on very sensitive ground here, but this race shit drives me up the wall. Yes, I know I am not black. I am not subject to idiots who don’t like me because of my skin, and I know racism exists. But Jesus Christ, Jackson is a weasel who race baits and incites anger whenever possible to get attention, and money, and publicity. Remember the Duke rape case? How he sauntered down there, spent a lot of time on national television stirring up a hornet’s nest, and cost a coach his job, pressured a University to fire a coach and humiliate and ruin several young men’s lives…all for a sociopathic stripper with a history of making false allegations. If Jesse Jackson really cared about saving black people from being murdered, he’d raise a ruckus and demand politicians attention and be on CNN every time black on black homicide occurs.
Trayvon is a tragedy for his family, no one else. It was a freak occurrence, like 9/11, or the Oklahoma Bombing, or a serial killing. President Obama doesn’t know him, and does not grieve for him, his support is theater, and he is no more sincere than Jeb Bush or Rick Santorum. Again…it absolutely is awful he is dead, but let’s be honest for a minute: Trayvon has become a meme, this week’s Kony, to be forgotten in a few days, and that’s just fucking disrespectful to a young man who died and the family that mourns him.
Politicians disgrace themselves by pretending to care about a person THEY DO NOT KNOW. Accusations about motive are made by people in office to cover themselves, or to garner votes, based on no evidence whatsoever. This man, who shot a young boy, we don’t know his mental history, we don’t know his criminal history…WE DO NOT KNOW IF HE WAS RACIST. Yet people who are supposed to be moral leaders jump all over each other to be the quickest one to condemn someone who hasn’t even been charged with a crime.
Like I said with Sandusky, for what it’s worth, this guy is probably an asshole, and should probably go to jail, and it seems like an absurd, ridiculous, way to run a state, legislating a law about ‘standing your ground’ that gives you clearance to kill someone if you feel threatened. I agree with almost everyone on this. What I think needs to register though is that due process is important, and that national leaders making a national issue of a local tragedy just to show the public how sensitive they are to racial matters is dangerous, because statesman should be above race. To see why, imagine if the victim was a white girl, and the criminal a black man, and Newt flew to Florida to raise awareness of the crime.
You don’t have to imagine, actually. Read a history text book. Leaders race baiting is how lynch mobs were formed throughout American history. We’re better than this now, let the evidence come to light and let this boy’s family grieve in peace.
This would never have been an issue is Zimmerman was just charged from the jump. In this circumstance it should be up to a jury to determine guilt or innocence under the law, not the local police just taking Zimmerman’s word for it. That being said the new Black Panthers are turning it into a lynch mob offering a reward for Zimmerman. Old bromide – 2 wrongs don’t make a right.
